The system is intended for launch of the engine due to rotation of a bent shaft with a necessary speed and consists of the battery, a starter, the traction relay and connecting wires. The traction relay is mounted directly on a starter (see rice. Details of a starter of cars of 1980-87).

Prevention

The starter gear wheel drive on cars of 1980-87 is provided with the lever connected with a plunger of the traction relay. Since 1988 on the Land Cruiser cars 2 types of starters with a planetary reducer are established. Starters of these types are not subject to repair and change assembled with the traction relay.

On cars from the manual transmission the starter joins only after pressing a coupling pedal. On cars with automatic transmission the starter joins after transfer of the selector to situation Park or Neutral.

Precautionary measures

When working with units of system of start observe the following precautionary measures.

Inclusion of a starter is allowed for the period of no more than 15 seconds with the subsequent pause not less than 2 minutes.

As the starter is directly connected to the battery, at inept actions, overloads or casual short circuits formation of an arch and emergence of the fire is possible.

Before repair of units of system of start of the engine always disconnect the battery from weight.
