Radical and conrod bearings at capital repairs of the engine are subject to obligatory replacement, however the bearings which were in operation should be checked carefully to restore the general condition of the engine at the time of repair.
Insufficient lubricant because of the wrong assembly, pollution and penetration of foreign particles, frequent overloads of the engine, corrosion, etc. are causes of destruction of bearings of a bent shaft. Irrespective of the reason which caused destruction of bearings it should be eliminated. Types of wear of radical and conrod bearings

PERFORMANCE ORDER |
1. If bearings of standard dimensional groups are installed, then the new bearing is selected according to numbers put on replaced, and also according to numbers on the block of cylinders and the crankshaft with use of tables. |
2. If the crankshaft was ground, then bearings should be selected in car service in which grinding was carried out. |
3. After selection of bearings measure a gap in necks (see subsection 3.3.8.2). |
4. Industrially at assembly of the engine bearings with different color marking which is put on a bearing insert edge are installed. |
5. Marking of dimensional group of bearings is usually put from an insert, turned to a back part of the crankshaft, except for a back radical insert which is marked from turned to a forward part of the crankshaft. |
6. It is allowed to establish the top and lower inserts from various dimensional groups. For example, to correct a gap on 0,0125 mm the standard insert sometimes is used with an insert from group with the reduced diameter at 0,025 mm. |
Prevention
It is forbidden to establish couple of inserts if distinction of their diameters exceeds 0,025 mm. The inserts differing by the size should be established either all from above, or all from below.
