Check without removal from the car

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. If the starter electric motor does not rotate at turn of a key at all, then be convinced that the lever of the selector is in situation Park or Neutral (on cars with automatic transmission) or press a coupling pedal.
2. Make sure that the battery is charged, check purity, reliability of fastening of cables on the battery and on the traction relay of a starter.
3. If at turn of a key the electric motor of a starter turns on, and the crankshaft is not turned, then slipping of the obgonny coupling of a starter is the reason. In this case the starter assembled should be replaced.
4. If at turn of a key the electric motor of a starter does not rotate, but clicks of the traction relay sound, then contacts of the traction relay, the battery and the electric motor of a starter are faulty (or the crankshaft is hardly turned).
5. If at inclusion of a starter the click published by a relay anchor is not listened, then malfunction of the battery, burn-out of a fusible crossing point (the chain is opened), malfunction of the auxiliary relay of a starter, or the most traction relay can be causes of failure.
6. For check of the traction relay close a crossing point (+) a pole of the battery and a conclusion for a wire from the ignition key (it is located on the traction relay).
7. If the electric motor of a starter is started, then the traction relay is serviceable, and the ignition lock, the auxiliary relay of a starter or conducting are faulty.
8. If the starter electric motor is still not started, then remove a starter assembled with the traction relay for check and repair.
9. If the starter turns the crankshaft, but with very small speed, then at first check degree of state of charge of the battery and reliability and integrity of connections. The starter will rotate the engine with a small speed also in those cases if the crankshaft hardly rotates or in the engine oil with too big viscosity is filled in.
10. Warm up the engine, then disconnect a high-voltage wire of the coil from a cover of the distributor and connect to weight on the engine.
11. Connect in a positive pole of the battery a positive conclusion of the voltmeter, and to negative – negative.
12. Include a starter and consider the established indication of the voltmeter. Time of inclusion of a starter should not exceed 15 seconds. Tension on the battery at a normal speed of rotation of the crankshaft has to be 9 V or a little more.
13. If tension on the battery is equal to 9 V, or exceeds 9 V a little, and the speed of rotation of the crankshaft low, then the electric motor of a starter is faulty.
14. If voltage less than 9 V, and the speed of rotation of the crankshaft low, then the podgoraniye of contacts of the traction relay, malfunction of the electric motor of a starter, a battery self-discharge, an unsatisfactory condition of contacts are probable causes.

Removal and installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect the battery from weight.
2. Get the battery from a motor compartment.
3. Disconnect and get the device a cruise control from a motor compartment.
4. Disconnect sockets from a starter and the traction relay.
5. Turn off bolts of fastening of a starter (the arrow specified the top bolt of a starter).
6. Remove an arm from the top part of a starter assembled with the traction relay.

Prevention

At first partially turn off one or two bolts of an arm, then give a starter down with the traction relay then turn off other bolts.

7. Installation is carried out upside-down.
